Vision

We believe that knowledge, coupled with wise decision making, will be the key to ensuring the ongoing stability of the Earth and the natural and human systems that depend on it. The Sustainable Facilities & Infrastructure (SFI) Program is committed to being a creator and provider of sustainability knowledge to stakeholders of the built environment, and to assist them in choosing customized, sustainable solutions to the problems they face.

Mission

SFI's mission is to be the premier resource for knowledge about built environment sustainability (BES). Our functions include:

  • Synthesis of existing BES knowledge
  • Diagnosis of practical needs for that knowledge
  • Creation of new BES knowledge via basic and applied research
  • Dissemination of BES knowledge via training, publication, and other media
  • Assistance in the customized application of BES knowledge to help our clients choose sustainable solutions to their problems
  • Documentation of the impacts of BES knowledge application, i.e., sustainable problem solving
