& Project Economics
The materials used in the Goat House
were nearly all from recycled or waste sources. The materials for each building
element are listed below, along with their source and price, if purchased new.
Tools used in the construction of each element are also listed.
West
Wall - Glass Bottle & Mortar/Soil Mix
Formwork:
- White pine 2x4s - obtained from
fraternity dumpsters (approximately 30 linear feet)
- 3/8" Plywood - obtained from fraternity
dumpsters (approximately 24 sq. ft.)
- Fasteners - 10 penny nails
Wall Materials:
- Glass bottles - obtained from
recycling dumpster
- Mortar mix - 60 pound bags, 12
each, US$2.47 per bag
- Aggregate - 1/4", obtained on
site (approximately 1.5 cu. ft.)
- Georgia Red Clay - obtained from
local landfill (approximately 1.5 cu. ft.)
